DSC08286One of the great things about summer is that it’s car cruise-in season and most of the towns and cities near where I live have a weekend gathering of some sort. These street shows allow me the opportunity to enjoy one of my favorite pastimes, walking among all the nice cars and putting the camera to good use. Last evening I chose to go to Lenoir, NC for their monthly Cruise-In. There were nearly 500 cars in attendance so it took a little time to find what I thought was the best representation of what Clunker Nation is all about. So here’s my pick from this show, an ’84 Cutlass Supreme Brougham.

This particular car is owned by Butch who hails from Boone, NC. Butch’s father-in-law bought the car new at Mack Brown Olds in Boone, NC. Butch and his wife inherited this jewel after his father-in-law passed away and thankfully it went to a good home.

The car has 97,000 original miles, has been repainted once but sports the original vinyl top and interior. Butch tells me the car has had no major issues and runs flawlessly. The car gets a few thousand miles of use each year, most of them being travel to Cruise-Ins. A big thanks to Butch for giving me the lowdown on this nicely preserved Olds.

Oh, I do love these G-bodies…the last in a long line of GM intermediates. Did you know that you could still get a three on the column manual transmission in the Buick Century/Regal sedan until ’83? I’d do anything to find one of those…
